On October 17th 2025, FIMSO members were invited to participate in the 2025 Shanghai Medical Forum, hosted by the Vice Dean of Fudan University Shanghai medical College. The forum opened with a welcoming address by Li Jin, Dean of Shanghai Medical College, followed by remarks from Chanxue You, Ministry of Education and Chinese-Foreign Culture Exchange Center, and Hongyu Hu, Deputy Director of the Shanghai Municipal health Commission.
Following the forum opening speeches, four speakers introduced their findings and researches. Professor Hartmut Michel, a Nobel Laureate in Chemistry, spoke on the pressing challenges in biomedicine. Professor Liam Smeeth addressed “Improving Health Worldwide,” emphasizing quality over quantity in research“It is up to us, the academic community, to do better, not merely do more research; to ask the right questions, provide robust, reproducible answers, and ensure that those most disadvantaged benefit from progress.” Professor Jian Lu, academician of the National Academy of Technologies of France; and Director of the Hong Kong Branch of the National Precious Metal Material Engineering Research Center, discussed precision-medicine innovation enabled by additive manufacturing and advanced materials. The last guest speaker was Professor Jeremy K. Nicholson, emeritus professor of Biological Chemistry at Imperial College London, described Phenomic Medicine and its role in personalized and public healthcare.
This forum offered FIMSO members valuable exposure to global perspectives on biomedical innovations, research directions, and the future of precision health.
